Do we really want a toaster for President?

Well, having people calling up looking for your wife to tell her the news that you're in critical condition after an accident and not likely to live is somewhat disconcerting. Particularly when they are also looking for your sister Katie and your wife has to try to explain that she is your wife, not someone named Kathy.

On Thursday, August 7, Denise came home from a day out with the kids and found 2 voice mails on the phone from upset sounding people looking to speak to a Kathy and asking her to call back as it was very important. The tenor in the voices prompted Dee to call back to let them know they had the wrong number. Apparently, when Dee connected to them, they were looking for Chris Grannis' wife to let her know that he was in an accident and wasn't likely to survive the night. Dee said that this was his wife Denise, at which point they said no, his wife's name was Kathy. They were also looking for his sister Catie (though it was later revealed to short for Cassandra).

Turns out there is (or at this point was) another Christopher Grannis in Salem. Only he had one s at the end of his name rather than my 2 s'. Plus he had an unlisted phone number and apparently didn't register his real address either since the one he had was actually Salem State College's main building. The family appears to be estranged which made them contact my house thinking that it was us.

So, anyone coming across an obituary or police report that Chris Grannis of Salem passed away... it's not me, but rather my doppelganger.

Probably one of the freakier occurrences in my life to date!

Now. Listen. This is important. There's the real world and there's the world of nightmares. That's right, isn't it? You understand that. What I want you to remember is this - and I know it's hard - the real world is a lie; and your nightmares are real. The Library is real. There are people trapped in there. People who need to be saved. The shadows are moving again. Those people are depending on you. Only you can save them. Only you.

I'm currently trying to decide which to attend. I'm definitely going to one this year, and I'm leaning towards Dragoncon because it looks like there's more fun stuff going on there that I'd like to see and hear from celebs and such, the GenCon also intrigues me as a) I've never been to one but have wanted to go for oh... 30 years or so and b) Dave and his crew are going and those are real solid people I know and have met in real life (plus one of them wrote for Changeling and Wraith so is therefore in a 'neat person to know' category).

On the other Hand, Dragoncon always seemed awesome and I love the variety of stuff that's going to be there beyond the uber-nerd orgy of gaming at GenCon. It also has the advantage of being held at a slightly better time for me to get down there. So... who's going to Dragoncon then that I'll meet and possibly move from the 'probably just an AI that lives in the little box on my desk to 'obviously an Android download of the AI that lives in the little box on my desk sent to confuse me'?

Holy cow.. that was unexpected. Family looked at me funny when I yelped at the end.

I didn't even mind her. So much.

There was a conversation regarding wondering when the USA would go wholesale fascist and evil and, then the Wardrobe choices of the Axis of Evil. This lead to this insightful conversation:
